Business continuity and disaster recovery
Total resilience.

No friction.

FileMaker Server Remote Backup and Standby Server deliver enterprise-grade protection for your business, even if hardware fails.

Data stays protected.
Operations keep running.

That’s what a complete business continuity plan delivers.

Your data,
protected.

A complete plan keeps an offsite copy of your data safe and recoverable — no matter what happens to your local server.
Your operations, uninterrupted.

The right setup means you can switch over in minutes and your team keeps working, even if your primary server goes offline.

Purpose-built protection for your FileMaker Server environment.

Remote Backup
Offsite. Automatic. Always running.

Business data survives whatever happens to your local server. Remote Backup copies your FileMaker files to secure, Apple-managed cloud storage every 20 minutes — encrypted, offsite, and completely separate from your local environment.

  • No scripts, no external drives, no manual steps.
  • End-to-end encrypted when FileMaker Encryption at Rest is enabled.
  • Setup takes minutes, maintenance takes nothing.
Standby Server
Ready before you need it.

An unexpected outage doesn’t have to mean an extended shutdown. Standby Server lets you keep a secondary server in continuous sync with your primary. If the primary goes offline, switching over takes just minutes and prevents costly downtime.

  • A secondary server ready the moment you need it.
  • Configured directly from your FileMaker Admin Console.
  • Minimal disruption to your team during a switchover.

Security and resilience, built in from the start.

Native to FileMaker Server.

Both features are fully integrated into the platform you already run and manage. No need for third-party tools. No extra software.
Security standards you trust.

Your backup data is stored in secure, managed cloud infrastructure, giving you security, privacy, and reliability you can count on.
Nothing to maintain.

There are no credentials to rotate and no scripts to monitor. Just protection that works quietly in the background.

Two services for complete FileMaker business continuity.

Remote Backup satisfies the 3-2-1 rule of data protection. Standby Server adds the continuity layer. Together, they protect your data and keep your business running.

FAQs
What is FileMaker Server business continuity and disaster recovery?

FileMaker Server business continuity is the practice of keeping your operations running or recovering quickly when something goes wrong with your server environment. A complete strategy combines local backups, offsite remote backups, and standby infrastructure to protect against data loss, corruption, and unplanned downtime. The goal isn’t just surviving a crisis. It’s making sure a crisis never stops your business.

Do I still need local backups if I use Remote Backup?

Yes. Local backups and Remote Backup serve different purposes. Local backups are your fastest path to recovery for everyday issues like accidental data deletion or minor corruption. Remote Backup adds offsite protection against larger threats: hardware failure, ransomware, or a disaster that affects your entire location. One without the other leaves gaps. Together, they give you the redundancy a complete FileMaker Server business continuity plan requires.

How secure is Remote Backup?

Remote Backup stores your FileMaker data on secure cloud servers managed by Claris and configured in line with Apple’s privacy and security standards. If Encryption at Rest (EAR) is enabled on the files being backed up, then backups are fully end-to-end encrypted. Claris manages the infrastructure directly, so there are no third-party storage providers to configure and no credentials to maintain.

Do I need to install additional software for Remote Backup or Standby Server?

No. Both Remote Backup and Standby Server are native capabilities built directly into FileMaker Server 2026. You can configure and monitor them from your FileMaker Admin Console without installing third-party plugins or managing external storage accounts.

Can I get Remote Backup without Standby Server?

Yes. Remote Backup and Standby Server each are available as a standalone add-on. That said, they’re designed to complement each other. Remote Backup handles data recovery after an incident, while Standby Server minimizes downtime during one. Using both gives you the most complete business continuity for your FileMaker solution.

Can a Claris Partner help me with disaster recovery and business continuity planning?

Yes. If a Claris Partner manages your FileMaker hosting and support, they’re also a great starting point for a conversation about disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

What does Remote Backup or Standby Server cost?

Pricing depends on your FileMaker Server configuration and, for Remote Backup, the amount of storage you need.
